My Last Christmas at Home

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

The Snow in Minnesota
20" and still falling since yesterday late afternoon. Mina and I dug trenches and attempted to make a fort, so my goofy sister could jump in the middle of it and make a snow angel. This Christmas we are starting new traditions for our family.

My mom was gifted a set of American White Square China plates and a set of silverware this year. Something she has never had and I'm not sure she ever wanted, but since our family is starting new traditions, I suppose it will be the gift she passes on to Mina when she gets married and has a family of her own. For the first time EVER, my mom has decided to have a formal dinner for our family on Christmas day and make use of her new China and silverware, complete with cloth napkins, silver napkin rings, purple, gold and white candles and wine glasses (we don't drink but they match the plates). My mom is cooking by request, so we are having ham, turkey, prime rib, mashed potatoes, cheesy rice with broccoli, collard greens, lobster stuffed ravioli, wild mushroom dressing, homemade rolls and a spicy sausage and potato soup. I'm sure she bought dessert since she doesn't bake. It should be my last Christmas living at home, so I'm glad mom is going all out. My mom never gets anything for herself and I believe she deserves these lovely things.

The meaning of Christmas is significant. regardless of your race or religion, as a Christian, specifically a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, the Mormons, I feel prompted to share the true message of Christmas. It is nice to get gifts and use our spirit of giving to create and practice Christmas traditions, such as making cookies and pastries for our friends and family using recipes passed on through the generations, using our voices to sing carols for those who are in need, and decorating our homes, it is the time we celebrate the birth of Christ and the spirit you feel that moves you to do good deeds, is the light of Christ you carry within you. Along with many others at this time, I wish you happiness, love, peace and hope for all things good. I wish that everyone takes the time to learn of Christ that they might find comfort in His enduring love for each of us. I wish everyone finds a personal relationship with our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. This is the best gift I can wish for everyone on earth. Again to you and your families,
                                     MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Story Time Fun..

"If Life Gets Too Hard To Stand, Kneel." - Gordon B. Hinckley

I had not really planned on taking a trip this time of year, and yet I found myself
packing rather hurriedly. This trip was going to be unpleasant and I knew in advance that no real good would come of it. I'm talking about my annual "Guilt Trip."

I got tickets to fly there on "Wish I Had" airlines. It was an
extremely short flight. I got my baggage, which I could not check. I chose to carry it myself all the way. It was weighted down with a thousand memories of what might have been. No one greeted me as I entered the terminal to the Regret City International Airport. I say international because people from all over the world come to this dismal town.
As I
checked into the Last Resort Hotel, I noticed that they would be hosting the year's most important event, the Annual Pity Party. I wasn't going to miss that great social occasion. Many of the towns leading citizens would be there.

First, there would be the Done family, you know, Should Have, Would Have and Could Have. Then came the I Had family. You probably know Mr. Wish and his clan. Of course, the Opportunities would be present, Missed and Lost. The biggest family would be the Yesterday's. There are far too many of them to count, but each one would have a very sad story to share.

Then Shattered Dreams would surely make and appearance. And It's Their Fault would regale us with stories / excuses about how things had failed in his life, and each story would be loudly applauded by Don't Blame Me and I Couldn't Help It.

Well, to make a long story short, I went to this depressing party knowing that there would be no real benefit in doing so. And, as usual, I became very depressed. But as I thought about all of the stories of failures brought back from the past, it occurred to me that all of this trip and subsequent "pity party" could be canceled by ME! I started to truly realize that I did not have to be there. I didn't have to be depressed. One thing kept going through my mind, I CAN'T CHANGE YESTERDAY, BUT I DO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE TODAY A WONDERFUL DAY.

I can be happy, joyous, fulfilled, encouraged, as well as encouraging. Knowing this, I left the City of Regret immediately and left no forwarding address. Am I sorry for mistakes I've made in the past? Yes, but there is no physical way to undo them.

So, if you're planning a trip back to the City of Regret, please cancel all your reservations now. Instead, take a trip to a place called, Starting Again. I liked it so much that I have now taken up permanent residence there. My neighbors, the I Forgive Myselfs and the New Starts are so very helpful. By the way, you don't have to carry around heavy baggage, because the load is lifted from your shoulders upon arrival. God bless you in finding this great town. If you can find it, it's in your own heart. Please look me up. I live on I Can Do It street.

These are favorite quotes of mine that help get me through the worst of times. I use them often to uplift myself.

"Please don't nag yourself with thoughts of failure. Do not set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve. Simply do what you can do, in the best way you know, and the Lord will accept of your effort." - Gordon B. Hinckley

"There is a divine purpose in the adversities we encounter every day. They prepare, they purge, they purify, and thus they bless."
- James E. Faust

Walt Disney was turned down 302 times before he got financing for his dream of creating the "Happiest Place on Earth". Today, due to his persistence, millions of people have shared 'the joy of Disney'.

Colonel Sanders spent two years driving across the United States looking for restaurants to buy his chicken recipe. He was turned down 1,009 times! How successful is Kentucky Fried Chicken today?

Having said this, keep in mind that you must constantly reevaluate your circumstances and the approach you are using to reach your goal. There is no sense in being persistent at something that you are doing incorrectly! Sometimes you have to modify your approach along the way. Every time you do something you learn from it, and therefore find a better way to do it the next time.

You've failed many times, although you may not remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim, didn't you? Did you hit the ball the first time you swung a bat? Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home runs, also strike out a lot.

R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on.

English novelist John Creasey got 753 rejection slips before he published 564 books.

Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, but he also hit 714 home runs.

Don't worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.

I loved these little snippets from an LDS sight that my partner in crime (Ferron) showed me! Hope you are Encouraged today.
